Distington Surgery is a member of Copeland Primary Care Network which covers a registered patient population of circa 62,000. The network is made up of seven member practices namely Distington Group Practice, Fellview Healthcare, Lowther Medical Centre, Mansion House Surgery, Queen Street Surgery, Seascale Group Practice, Westcroft House Surgery.  Copeland Primary Care Network has adopted a flat practice network structure where all seven practices are equal and employment contracts are shared across all seven member practices.

How Do I Make An Appointment?

circled_dayYou can make an appointment with the doctor or nurse by phoning the surgery on 01946 830207 or by calling in person when the reception is open. Alternatively you can now book an appointment with a doctor via our website by clicking on the link above or on the request appointment button at the bottom of our home page. If you are already registered for online repeat prescription ordering the option to book an appointment will be available to you when you log in. If you are not registered please ask reception who will arrange this for you.

You have a right to express a preference of practitioner and we will do our best to give you an appointment with the doctor of your choice.  Should your preferred doctor not have a free appointment you will be offered an appointment with one of the other GPs in the practice.

You will never be refused to see a doctor if one is available. If you no longer need your appointment please let us know.

Please remember that appointments are for ONE person only. If you feel your consultation may be lengthy, ask the receptionist for a DOUBLE APPOINTMENT when you book.

Junior Doctors

This practice trains junior doctors. They are fully qualified and have already done training in hospitals. You can expect them to provide a full range of GP services. If they are not certain about what to do they will ask more senior colleagues for advice.

When making an appointment with a junior doctor reception will inform you of this and again at reception when booking in for your appointment.

Access For The Disabled Or Wheelchair Users

There is a ramp for wheelchair users at the front of the surgery and a doorbell at the front door should anyone require assitance entering the building. There are disabled toilet facilities and all consulting rooms are on the ground floor. 


If you would like a chaperone present during your consultation, then please advise the receptionist when booking your appointment or checking in.

Interpreter Service

An interpreter service is available if required. Please contact reception.
